The lagoon, which you will enjoy the view from the apartment, is the home of the WWF oasis and due to its location along the migratory routes, sees the concentration of thousands of birds, including the fascinating pink flamingos.
The district is extremely diverse; the lagoon is bordered to the sea by two tomboli (Tombolo della Feniglia and Giannella) characterized by long sandy beaches, pine forests and Mediterranean scrub.
The nearest beaches are those of the Giannella and Feniglia, bordering the Lagoon of north and south, respectively, and separate it from the sea. They are two sandy beaches with facilities and comfortable for families.
The Feniglia has fine and clear sand and shallow waters, making it very suitable for children. There are some beaches, with restaurants and bars on the beach, but for the most part the beach is free, and in some places it is very wild and deserted even during the high season. Behind the beach there is the Feniglia Nature Reserve where you can see deers. The reserve is crossed by a dirt road on foot or by bike (it is closed to city traffic) to reach the beach.
The Giannella is a long strip of land about 6 km, which goes from Monte Argentario until the mouth of the Albegna river. The sandy beach stretches along the length of the tombolo and is sheltered from the south winds. There are many beach clubs, and long stretches of beach, you will also find bars and restaurants on the beach. The seabed slopes gently so the kids can play safely. The accesses to the sea are numerous and easy to see. Giannella is a beach suitable for sailing sports.
But if a walk in the Mediterranean scrubland does not scare you, equip yourself with water, fruit, sandwich, shoes for rocks and left for one of the coves of the promontory, with transparent water, enchanting natural beauty and never too crowded: often there is no cell coverage and you feel in paradise! Leaving from Porto Santo Stefano and follow the “Panoramica” street, you will see the coves open up beneath you. Definitely worth seeing Cala Grande and Cala Piccola.
On the side of Porto Ercole, passed the village and always on the “Panoramica” is the Spiaggia Lunga: just follow the signs for Forte Stella and when you find it, before taking the fork that will leads in, park along the road and then take ladders entering the scrubland; a little later, just leave your car before the Hotel “Il Pelicano” and walk a path of 200 mt., you will find Acqua Dolce, named for the underground aquifers that flow directly into the sea.
Sure to visit the villages of Porto Ercole (8km) and Porto Santo Stefano (12 km) joined by a wonderful scenic route.
Also worth seeing Ansedonia (9km) and the WWF Oasis of Lake Burano (15km).
